I read the Boortz’s diatribe first before I took a look at the hairstyle in contention. Once I saw the hairstyle, however, it convinced me this guy and his freeper sympathizers have not spent much time around black women. If they had, the hairstyle wouldn’t phase them at all. Black women do some amazing things with their hair—and I mean truly awesome—for any number of cultural reasons that are beyond my reach as a white boy, but also a) none of my biznezz, and b) it looks cool. Put simply, black women make a point of going out in public looking nice. Rep. McKinney is stylistically representing her constituency as much as Kay Bailey Hutchison does with her helmet head.
